i3070 Series — The Workhorse

The Keysight i3070 Series is the de-facto industry standard for ICT and the system most Vietnamese EMS lines depend on. Two qualities make it dominant: short-wire fixture technology dramatically improves signal integrity, and Automatic Program Generation (APG) means an engineer with average board knowledge can build a working program in days. Test programs are portable across i3070 generations — Series I/II boards retarget to Series 5/6 without re-authoring. What is ICT and why do EMS lines use it?

Automated electrical test that probes individual PCB nodes to verify each component. Catches assembly defects before functional test, where defects cost 10× more to find.

i3070 vs i7090?

i3070 is single-UUT-per-cycle, optimized for variety. i7090 tests up to 20 UUTs parallel with integrated FCT.

Can a legacy Agilent i3070 be upgraded?

Yes. Programs are forward-portable to Series 5/6 without re-authoring.

Does i3070 support flash programming?

Yes. Series 5 supports up to 3 Utility Cards per testhead, hot-swappable, controlled from BT-BASIC.

Relationship between ICT, boundary scan, nanoVTEP?

Complementary. ICT uses physical probes. Boundary scan uses JTAG inside the device. nanoVTEP is capacitive vectorless for IC opens. Most i3070 deployments use all three.
