What is the Keysight XR3 XR3L4A?

The Keysight InfiniiVision XR3 (model XR3L4A) is a 1U rack-mountable low-profile oscilloscope with 4 analog and 16 digital channels, a 14-bit ADC, a noise floor under 50 µVrms and an update rate of more than 1.3 million waveforms per second. Multiple XR3 units synchronize into one system of more than 100 channels sharing a single timebase.

Keysight introduced the XR3 on 3 November 2026 for rack-based automated test systems where engineers need more channels in less rack space. It brings the signal integrity of a full-size bench oscilloscope into 1U, helping aerospace and defense, manufacturing and high-energy physics teams move from bench-level confidence to rack-based scale.
The XR3 belongs to Keysight’s Essential XR3 class together with the HD3 series, such as the Keysight HD304MSO oscilloscope.
14-bit ADC and digital trigger on the MegaZoom 5 ASIC
A custom 14-bit ADC and a low-noise front end deliver a noise floor under 50 µVrms at full bandwidth, a noise density under −161 dBm/Hz. The fully digital trigger works on acquired data, so it is jitter-free and sensitive down to a single LSB. The real-time zone trigger runs directly on the acquisition path and qualifies signals at 6.4 billion tests per second, so intermittent events that cross a drawn zone are always captured. Real-time zoom, floating magnify and color grading run in the ASIC without reducing the update rate.
More than an oscilloscope
The same 1U box adds a 16-channel logic analyzer, a protocol analyzer, five counter/totalizers with 12-digit resolution, four 4.5-digit DVMs and a frequency response analyzer with Bode sweeps up to 10 decades. A 100 MHz 14-bit arbitrary waveform generator is available as an option. Fault Hunter evaluates signals against user-defined criteria for anything from a few minutes to two days.
Scale XR3 to more than 100 channels

Through the autosensing 10 MHz reference in/out, every XR3 shares a common clock and trigger, so all channels use the same timebase. Three hardware automations handle multi-instrument setup:
- Auto-discover: each scope reports its own IP address, so the system finds and configures instruments without manual network setup.
- Auto-sync: the 10 MHz reference clocks align across all instruments, locking clock and trigger to one timebase.
- Auto-deskew: the MegaZoom 5 ASIC delay lines calibrate automatically to correct skew across the system.
Each unit runs the native InfiniiVision interface with protocol decode, power-supply testing and jitter analysis on the instrument, plus embedded VNC and web servers. To view many units on one screen, Infiniium 2026 software (a free download for Windows PCs) shows signals from multiple XR3 instruments in one UI and adds real-time and offline analysis.

Using the XR3 with the Keysight XR8

Pair the XR3 with the Keysight Infiniium XR804KA oscilloscope to build one system from two scopes: the XR8 handles high-speed signal integrity measurements and the XR3 adds low-noise high-impedance inputs for low-speed debug and power analysis. Engineers can probe power rails, clocks and control lines on the XR3 while every XR8 channel stays free for high-speed signals. XR3 channels appear next to the XR8 channels in Infiniium 2026, and systems scale to 4, 8 or more channels as needs grow.
What is the XR3L4A used for?
Rack-based automated test
Many synchronized channels in 1U for ATE systems and end-of-line production test stations.
Aerospace & defense
High channel density test systems, with MIL-STD 1553 and ARINC 429 decode in the XR3LAERA package.
High-energy physics
More than 100 time-correlated channels for experiments that need many simultaneous measurement points.
Frequently bought with the XR3L4A
Keysight recommends passive, active, power rail and current probes for the XR3, for example the N2843A passive probe, N2795A active probe, N7020A power rail probe and the Keysight 1147B AC/DC current probe. The N2756A 16-channel MSO cable and the N3100A rackmount kit complete a rack installation.
