What is the Keysight Pro XG7 SG6311A?

The Keysight Pro XG7 analog signal generator (model SG6311A) produces metrology-grade RF signals from 9 kHz to 20 GHz, with 1 or 2 fully independent RF channels in a single 2U chassis, ultra-low phase noise and clean, calibrated output power up to +22 dBm.
When source noise approaches the quantity you are trying to measure, the source eats into your measurement margin and masks the low-level response of the device under test (DUT). Keysight designed the Pro XG7 for exactly that situation: it reduces the phase noise, AM noise, broadband noise, harmonics and non-harmonics contributed by the source, so engineers see the true performance of the DUT in radar receiver tests, satellite payload work, high-speed converter characterisation and calibration labs.
Pro XG7 is Keysight’s new product-line name; the front panel reads SG6311A PSG Signal Generator 9 kHz – 20 GHz, so Pro XG7 and SG6311A refer to the same model. It refreshes the Keysight E8257D PSG analog signal generator for applications up to 20 GHz and is distributed in Vietnam by Techmaster.
Hybrid YIG/DDS architecture
Each channel combines a YIG-based RF synthesis path — the low-noise foundation for spectral purity — with direct digital synthesis (DDS) for very wide FM and PM deviation. Operating modes are selected in software according to whether purity, power or the type of test matters most, so engineers do not have to manage the underlying RF path. Each channel has its own conditioning and leveling and a step attenuator before the output.
Two independent channels, less rack space
For tests that need two independent RF stimuli — two-path measurements, direction finding, LO substitution with a test signal — one two-channel SG6311A replaces two separate signal generators, reducing system complexity and freeing rack space for other instruments.

Choose the SG6311A when your test needs frequencies up to 20 GHz, clean power up to +22 dBm, 1 or 2 independent channels in a 2U chassis, and reuse of SCPI-based automation. Keep the E8257D when you need frequencies above 20 GHz or output power above +22 dBm.
What is the SG6311A used for?
Metrology & calibration
A programmable RF reference source for residual and cross-correlated phase noise measurements in calibration labs.
Radar, EMSO & satellite
Receiver sensitivity tests, local oscillator (LO) substitution, two-path stimulus and direction finding up to 20 GHz.
ADC/DAC, SERDES & components
Low-noise stimulus that separates converter and amplifier noise and jitter from the contribution of the source.
Which industries use the SG6311A?
Keysight positions the Pro XG7 for metrology and calibration, aerospace and defence (radar, EMSO), high-speed components and devices, and wireless, satellite and 5G/6G RF research below 20 GHz.
Frequently bought with the SG6311A
To observe and evaluate the signals generated by the SG6311A, customers often pair it with the Keysight N9020B MXA signal analyzer for everyday spectrum measurements. When frequencies above 20 GHz are required, the Keysight E8257D PSG analog signal generator remains a complementary choice.
