RI Effects on Particle Size Measurement in Liquid Media by Optical Extinction
The particle size range from below 0.1 µm to above 100 µm encompasses the range of the largest to the smallest of microcontaminants in liquid media. It also spans the range of interest of parenteral drug and VLSI semiconductor manufactures although the levels of detrimental microcontamination are quite dissimiar. VLSI semiconductor manufacturers are primarily interested in submicron particles while parenteral drug manufacturers are only currently interested in supermicron particles. This distinction in size range also embodies differences in optical techniques which are intercompared here.
